Caribbean Poker ~ Game of Chance than of Skill

Caribbean Poker, also officially called as Caribbean Stud Poker is not a very old game. Most of them say that Caribbean Poker employs many of the skills of standard 5-card Stud. Yes I do agree, however other than sharing the five-card hand and same poker hand rankings as most poker games, Caribbean Poker itself is not really a true poker variation, but more of a blend of poker and Blackjack.

In Caribbean Poker, you play against the dealer instead of other players, and there is no bluffing involved. The player acts first by placing an ante and can either raise or fold depending on the poker hands strength. The game actually showed up in the Caribbean in 1980’s. First played on Aruba and on cruise ships circling the Caribbean islands, the game was clearly invented with profit in mind, since it has a rather hefty house edge. Due to it’s progressive jackpot and simple playing rules, Caribbean Poker is a favorite game aboard cruise ships and in South Pacific clubs.

The strategy in Caribbean Poker is very complicated. Very few people know it perfectly. However up till now, I personally have two simplifications that will cover most poker hands order. One; always raise with a pair or higher. Two; always fold with less than the dealer’s qualifying hand which is ace or king. Yes, the ace/king are the tricky hands. Caribbean Poker is indeed a fun and exciting, especially when played with a jackpot. But it is important to remember that the dealer has a larger edge when it comes to this game compared to other poker casino games like Roulette and Blackjack. Let me explain in detail, each player and the dealer will receive 5 cards, face down. The dealer will turn over one of his cards, then push the cards towards the players, after which the players may look at their cards. The players are not allowed to discuss with any other player about their cards at the poker table. Of course, in Caribbean Poker, they have the option to play or fold, if they choose to play, they will have to place their bets (twice the amount of their own bets) in the bet box. And if folded, they forfeit their bet. The dealer reveals his hole cards, after all the players finish their decisions. The dealer only plays with ace/king or higher, then he compares his cards to the players cards (individually) and the best poker hand wins.

Gosh!!! May be very soon, I am definitely going to become a master in writing all the online poker rules. I don’t know how, but recently I am turning to create my blog a one-stop online gambling guide with rules for poker games. So feel free and visit me frequently for all your questions on poker rules or how to play poker.
