Basic Texas Holdem Poker Strategy

Poker odds are an important part of Texas Hold’em. If you don’t know how to calculate poker hand odds, poker odds and pot odds you will have a hard time playing your Texas Holdem hands correctly in difficult situations.

Although many successful poker players claim to play by "feel," a solid grounding in math is vital for successful poker play. Texas Hold'em, like all other forms of gambling, is based on odds. The likelihood of something happening vs. how much you get paid if it does happen is the basis for all gambling propositions. This likelihood is referred to as poker odds and it will be very difficult for you to bet or call bets correctly if you do not understand Texas Holdem odds. What are the chances of hitting a flush draw? What are the chances of your pocket pair improving to a set on the flop. It's difficult to memorize all this information, but you should at least have a basic understanding of the texas holdem probabilities if you want to become a winning Texas Hold’em player.

Pot odds in Texas Hold'em work exactly the same way. If the bet is $1 to you and there is $5 in the pot, you are getting 5-to-1 pot odds. Just as in the horse race, you need to win that pot once for every five times you lose it to break even. If you'll win the poker pot more often, you have positive expected value. If you'll win it less often, you have a negative expected value play.

Exciting events in World Series of Poker - The HORSE Event

The big newcomer in World Series of Poker 2006 was the $50,000 HORSE event. With its record-breaking buy-in and its demand for great versatility, this poker game gathered mostly big names and was won by legendary David 'Chip' Reese. The HORSE event was very well received among poker players and returned in World Series of Poker 2007, this time with the World Championship label as an extra attraction.
Freddy Deeb won the poker tournament and $2,276,832 in prize money. In World Series of Poker 2008 the $50,000 event will be sidelined by two smaller HORSE events, with buy-ins at $3,000 and $1,500 respectively. Speaking of Poker World Championships; during the 2008 World Series of Poker, as many as eleven world champions will be crowned. Except for the big HORSE event mentioned above and the $10,000 main event, 9 other events will also be labeled as World Championships. Among these are high buy-in events in all the major poker variations such as fixed-limit poker and pot-limit Texas Holdem, Omaha hi and hi-low, seven-card stud hi and hi-low, and 2-7 low ball. There are also poker world championship events targeting ladies and seniors specifically.

For poker players who really like to be in the middle of the action, World Series of Poker 2008 features a $10,000 World Championship event in heads-up no-limit Texas Hold’em, thereby over-trumping the yearly World Headsup Poker Championship in Barcelona.

Last but not least, there's of course the $10,000 World Series of Poker Main Event. This year the arena will be prepared to receive up to 10.000 players! Opinions differ as to whether 2006's 8.000 plus entrants will actually be improved, due to the effects of stricter US gambling legislation. In 2007 6,358 players entered the Main Event.

Never Stay in a Poker Game, hoping to get even

It makes no sense to stay in a poker game, struggling to get even, unless you would normally continue to play that poker game if you were ahead. If you are a professional poker player, then the more hours you spend in games, under good working conditions, the more profit you will earn. You get paid by the hour, pure and simple.

Sometimes it might not seem that way because the fluctuations in poker are so great that it's hard to imagine yourself working for an hourly wage. But that's what's happening. Eventually the more hours you play poker under profitable conditions, the more your bankroll will grow. But you only have so many hours to invest in poker and you need to invest them wisely. Find the best poker games. Make sure you are playing when you are in condition to do the best job. You need to weigh everything. For instance, it's not good to play poker when you are tired. But if the poker game is very good, you might occasionally choose to continue playing, even if you are tired. Conversely, sometimes you might choose to go home early and rest even though the poker game is profitable because you think that another game will be more profitable tomorrow.

So you need to make choices about which hours will be the most profitable. Okay but what you do not need to do is choose to play poker for hours on end in an attempt to get even for the session. Whether you win or lose today has nothing whatsoever to do with your overall sucess. It doesn't matter when you quit or when you play, as long as your decision is based on how profitable the next hour will be.

Think about this, you start every pot even. Your bankroll is always only as big as when the pot begins. You are never winning or losing when the poker cards are dealt. You are always even. So it makes no sense to try to get even. You already are.

Badugi Game : The Poker Game with Rainbow Hands

Badugi is not a complicated poker game to play since the rules are clear and easy to understand, which I will discuss in this article. To start off, keep in mind that Badugi game is a 4-card, triple-draw lowball poker. Usually, a maximum of six persons can play a set of Badugi.

Badugi Poker GameBetting in this poker game depends on whether Badugi is played as a limit, pot limit or a half-limit game. In a limit game, players can only raise the bet based on a specified or incremental unit per round. On the other hand, a pot limit game allows players to bet any amount from the minimum, equal to the big blind, to the maximum equal to the current pot value. In a half pot limit, the maximum bet in any round is equal to half of the pot value. During the betting round, the poker players may choose to call the bet, check, raise or fold the card and leave. A player’s betting decision depends on the kind of card combination or poker hand.

Badugi players have three card drawing rounds. In each round, you may maintain the existing hand or replace from one to four cards. The aim of each player is to have the lowest badugi. A badugi is a 4-card hand where there are no cards with the same value or from the same suit. If you are not fortunate to have a badugi, discard cards as follows:

1. Hand I : A club, A diamond, 3 spade, 7 heart. Club and diamond are both aces, so discard one such only one ace remains. The result is a 3-card hand: A club, 3 spade, 7 heart.

2. Hand II: A club, 5 diamond, 3 diamond, 7 club. The higher diamond and club shall be discarded. The result is a 2-card poker hand: A club, 3 diamond.

A Badugi is the best poker hand and wins over the 3-,2 or 1-card hands. However, if there are two or more players with badugis, the one with the lower badugi wins. The same poker rules applies if the top ranking hands are 3- or 2-hand - the lower one shall win. In case of a tie, the players share the pot.

Finding A Good Poker Table while playing poker online

If you're setting up a regular home poker game with your friends, you're going to need a poker table to play on. Sure, you could, all crowd around the kitchen table, but having to reach across the table to deal or pick up poker cards and watching card flip over upon contact with a high friction surface is likely to detract from your enjoyment of the game. If you want the complete poker experience, you'll want a real poker table.

The first thing you want to decide is what type of table to get. Traditional circular poker tables are convenient for poker players, but they are not meant to accommodate Texas hold'em, which has nine or ten players rather than the eight of stud games. If Texas hold'em is your game, you're going to want a Texas hold'em table.

Once you know what type of table you want, you have to decide what you want it to look like. What color should the felt be? What kind of wood do you want? Do you want cup holders in your table? Poker Chip racks? A dealer area? These are all factors you must take into consideration and they will be dependent on what kind of games you will actually be having at your home.

Playing poker online will help you make your decision. I would recommend for Enteratlantis.com This site have illustrated displays of the different types of poker tables. You can see what they look like and imagine how they will fit into your poker games.

Card counting in blackjack and the expected profit

Blackjack (also known as Twenty-one, Vingt-et-un (French for Twenty-one), or Pontoon) is the most widely played casino banking game in the world. While counting cards can put the odds of blackjack in your favor, it requires a huge time commitment. It is difficult to learn, and very time consuming to play.

BlackjackThe idea behind counting cards in blackjack is that a deck of cards with a high proportion of high cards (ten-valued cards and aces) to low cards is good for the player, while the reverse (a deck with a high proportion of low cards to high cards) is good for the dealer.
A deck rich in tens and aces improves the player's odds because blackjacks (which offer a higher payout than other winning hands) become more common, the dealer is more likely to bust a stiff hand, and double-downs are more successful. This is also portrayed in the film 21.

The card counters assign a heuristic point score to each card they see and then track only the total score. (This score is called the count). This myth was portrayed in the movie Rain Man, where the savant character Raymond Babbit counts through six decks with ease and a casino employee comments that it is impossible to count six decks. In the movie 21, however, card counting is portrayed as an intellectually difficult task which can only be undertaken by high-IQ top level students. Basic card counting assigns a positive, negative, or null value to each card. As each card is dealt, the running count is adjusted by each card's assigned value. There are multiple card-counting systems in use, but a plus-minus count — such as the Hi-Lo system.

In the Hi-Lo system, the cards 2 through 6 are assigned a value of +1. Tens (and face cards) through aces are assigned a value of -1. Cards 7, 8, and 9 have a value of zero or are called neutral (so they can be ignored). The Hi-Lo system is an example of a balanced card-counting system. This means that there are an equal number of +1 and -1 cards in the deck, so a count of all 52 cards would result in an end count of zero. Much more coming up about the various online casino poker games.
